This creamy homemade chocolate hazelnut spread is a healthier take on classic Nutella, and an absolute favourite with kids and adults alike. Naturally sweetened and made with just a few simple ingredients, it's perfect on toast, pancakes, waffles, or straight off the spoon.

Prep time: 5 minutes
Yields: 1 small jar

Ingredients:

  • 250g organic hazelnut puree, 100% hazelnut butter

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • ¼ cup organic cocoa powder

  • ⅓ cup maple syrup

  • ½ cup milk of choice, unsweetened almond milk, oat milk or similar

Instructions:

  • Sterilise a jar by filling it with boiling water and leaving it to stand for about 5 minutes, then carefully pour out the water and leave the jar to air dry completely.

  • Add hazelnut puree, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, maple syrup and milk to a bowl or blender.

  • Mix or blend until the mixture is silky smooth and spreadable, scraping down the sides as needed.

  • Taste and adjust: add a little more maple syrup for extra sweetness, or a little more cocoa for a more intense chocolate flavour.

  • Spoon the spread into the sterilised jar, seal well and store in the fridge.

Pro Tip:

  • Store the spread in the fridge and enjoy within 5-7 days for best flavour and freshness.

  • Serve it on warm toast, with apple slices, over pancakes, or stirred into yoghurt for a quick, kid-friendly snack.
